Purpose:
The purpose of the Aiken County Historical Society is to engage in activities to discover, document, promote, encourage, and preserve all facets of Aiken County History.
Recent Accomplishments / Activities:
- Erection of a new historical marker to memorialize the Hamburg Massacre (Marker ID 2-45) in partnership with the North Augusta Heritage Council
- Erection of a new historical marker for the Old Aiken Hospital (Marker ID 2-47)
- Repair of the Hoffman Historical marker
- Erection of a new historical marker for the Aiken Graded School (Marker ID 2-50)
- Erection of a new historical marker for the Aiken Preparatory School(Marker ID 2-51)
- Donation to support the Gaston Livery Stable preservation efforts
- Annual donation to the University of South Carolina -- Aiken (USCA) to provide a scholarship to a deserving History major student
- Publish 3 newsletters per year with articles related to Aiken County, SC history
Meetings: The ACHS normally meets at the Aiken County Historical Museum (433 Newberry Street, SW Aiken, SC 29801). Meetings are normally held on Sundays at 3:00 PM. ACHS Meetings are planned for February, May and September.
