Purpose
The purpose of the Aiken County Historical Society is to engage in activities to discover, document, promote, encourage, and preserve all facets of Aiken County History.
Accomplishments
Recent Accomplishments / Activities:
- Erection of a new historical marker to memorialize the Hamburg Massacre (Marker ID 2-45) in partnership with the North Augusta Heritage Council
- Erection of a new historical marker for the Old Aiken Hospital (Marker ID 2-47)
- Repair of the Hoffman Historical marker
- Erection of a new historical marker for the Aiken Graded School (Marker ID 2-50)
- Erection of a new historical marker for the Aiken Preparatory School(Marker ID 2-51)
- Donation to support the Gaston Livery Stable preservation efforts
- Annual donation to the University of South Carolina — Aiken (USCA) to provide a scholarship to a deserving History major student
- Publish 3 newsletters per year with articles related to Aiken County, SC history
Meetings
The ACHS normally meets at the Aiken County Historical Museum (433 Newberry Street, SW Aiken, SC 29801). Meetings are normally held on Sundays at 3:00 PM. ACHS Meetings are planned for February, May and September.
